An Ode to Pine Ridge Trail
It was raining all day when I pulled into the parking lot at the Big Sur Station. It was late in the afternoon on the shortest day of the year. The smell of the wet, loamy earth and redwood became ubiquitous. The smell of a wet forest is always unique – and the smell of ...

Re: Bottcher's Gap extended parking
I intend to include a few details here when I'm done.
I have done a couple of backpacking trips with groups and by myself in the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness.
A women recently completed the Condor Trail, even more impressive.

I was looking at the Forest Service website and it mentions there is a $35 Annual Day Use Parking Pass but on the website for the passes it appears there is no longer a $35 option.
There is a $10/day option but that seems steep.
I ...

human waste bag use at Sykes?
Seems like LNT is a hot topic - but curious who has been practicing the use of human waste bags (IE: wag bags / reststop 2 bag) at Sykes? I haven't been yet but have heard rumors of human feces piles left without any sort of burial. I don't know if it's just to deter people, but apparently it is in ...
