Arroyo Seco Trail

Date Hiked: April 17, 2010
General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident)

The trail to mile 2 is in good repair, with only one deadfall within a few hundred feet of the trail head and one washout between the two major river crossings. After mile two, the trail is worse with more deadfalls (a couple of them substantial, to mile 3. The trail is not very brushy, but there is much more poison oak, particularly on the flat right after the river crossing at mile 2. Once rounding the hairpin turn and moving up hill, the trail is in much better shape, with only one washout right before mile 3 and a few small deadfalls, until entering the brushy section closer to the ridge. The brush is encroaching the trail, making hiking painful for those foolish enough to wear short sleeved shirts. The tread is good throughout with only the two mentioned washouts, and two or three places where deadfalls are located in drainages. In these drainages, the deadfalls have damaged the tread. The upper portion of the trail also has some substantial deadfalls, from mile 3 to mile 5.
