The trail is in great shape. Lot's of water in the spring. Snow began at around 2,000 ft. elevation and it was full "winter wonderland" conditions up top.

Trail is in great shape overall. There is a little brush the first 1 mile or so but it's soft and not bad at all.The creek that's 2 miles up the trail, Lafler Canyon, was flowing well and the water is clear and awesome.

Steep and clear. There are few easily passed spots of brush in the first mile.

First mile significantly brushy in places (mostly broom), had to look down and use hat to part branches.

Wildflowers are starting to dry up, probably won't be good for much longer. But other than being steep as all hell, the trail is in great shape. Didn't look for the Lafler Canyon spring, but at only 2 miles in it was too early for a water stop.

The previous report of Lafler Canyon Creek being dry was greatly exaggerated - current flow is at least several liters per minute.

Trip report for Boronda trail on Aug 4th, 2018. This is certainly a wilderness freeway. No overgrown brush, down trees, washouts, etc. Very little posin oak and can be avoided easily. The trail is mostly exposed with VERY LITTLE shade. There was supposed to be a perennial stream (Lafler canyon creek) at about mile 2, but it was dry. The whole trail is dry, bring your own water.

Timber top camp is still there however there is a large downed tree leaning on the picnic table. Picnic table is still in tact and room for 5-6 people to sit and eat on it. The camp has plenty of room for many tents and also many opportunities for hammocks. We hung 3 hammocks with room for more. Plenty of shade at the campsite/picnic table. Lots of flies. Still no water.

This is absolutely a Wilderness Freeway. Since I last wrote a trail report for this trail, in 2013, the encroaching brush has been cut back and the deadfalls that had caused reroutes have been removed. The trail now follows its original alignment from bottom to top and is completely clear and obvious.

The wild flowers are just starting and it's hard to say how things will look in the coming weeks and months, but we saw coast paintbrush, stinging, sky, and silver lupine, baby blue eyes, blue dicks, California poppies, owls clover, and more, getting going - so the potential for some good displays is there.

Wide, clear, well maintained trail all the way to Timber Top camp. Beautiful hike!

The Boronda Trail is wilderness freeway.

But someone has apparently being running an ATV up the Boronda Trail, as well as along many of the old abandoned ranch roads. At some points they created new paths through the grass when the overhang along the trail was apparently too low for them. See photo for one such case.
