California Coastal Trail

Post by Tom Hopkins »

After several years of effort, the local Coastal Trail Working Group recently completed their Proposed Process For Writing The Master Plan For The Big Sur Portion Of The California Coastal Trail. Given all of the effort and the length of time required to draft the “plan to do the plan,” the Working Group may need many more years to create the actual plan of the trail, as well as figure out if implantation of new trail segments is feasible given public land recreation budget constraints and the reluctance to locate any of the trail on private property. In the meantime, those interested in hiking the coastal trail in Big Sur can follow existing public trail alignments mapped and published in 2000 by Coastwalk in their seminal Hiking the California Coastal Trail, Volume Two: Monterey to Mexico. http://www.boredfeet.com/singles2/cctv2.php
