Re: Manuel Peak Trail

Date Hiked: April 12, 2022 General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident) From the park to about 2.5 miles up it's virtually a wilderness freeway. As you make the bend around the ridge and start heading north the trail gets much brushier. The last mile or so is even more b...

Re: Bear Sighting by Pelon Camp (Lost Valley Trail)

That's awesome! Must be a small population as sightings are super rare. We just a few miles away on May 20 heading up Carrizo. Two days later we were in Lost Valley. Super cool!

Re: Lost Valley Trail

Date Hiked: May 21, 2020 General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident) LV proper is amazing. Water is flowing, birds are chirping, meadows are lovely. Climbing to the saddle east there is a lot of unavoidable PO. not the whole way but where the trail crosses the creek ,ye...

Re: Lost Valley Connector Trail

Date Hiked: May 22, 2020 General Condition: Difficult (brushy and/or many deadfalls, faint tread) The infamous Lost Valley Connector. I've done this a few times over the last 10 years. This time was by far the worst I had seen it. From the top the first 1/4 mile is hardcore encroaching brush and fa...

Re: North Coast Ridge Trail

Date Hiked: May 21, 2020 General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident) Pantilat's report below is still accurate and I don't have much to add. We hiked from Cook to LV Connector. Found water in the stream just after Rodeo Flat junction and a bit after that is Redondo Spri...

Re: Carrizo Trail

Date Hiked: May 20, 2020 General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident) The first 3 miles to the spring is great. Very little encroaching brush and perfect tread. The work that was done after the spring was still evident as was Leor's most recent "quick lop as he runs...

Big backpack loop completed

we did a gorgeous 32 loop in 3 days and 2 nights recently. I submitted several trail reports that may be helpful. Carrizo->Cook. put our packs down and hiked ncrt to Cone knife ridge up and down. back along Carrizo to Cook for the night. Next day NCRT to LV Connector down to LV. Day 3 was LV to Fish...

Re: Mountain bikes in the Ventana Wilderness?

Mountain Biking the Ventana is a silly discussion. Most of the trails are 100% not bike friendly: too steep, too loose, to slanted, too rocky, too silly. I am an avid Mountain biker and hiker/backpacker and anyone that has done both understands the engineering and flow of a mnt bike vs a hiking trai...
