Re: De Angulo Trail

Date Hiked: February 2, 2018 General Condition: Passable (some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident) We started at Highway 1 and hiked up to Coast Ridge Road and back. I would rate the trail as somewhere between "Passable" and "Difficult." Unlike the section of trail awaiting y...

Re: Sykes out of control

With fire restrictions now in place and no campfires permitted, did you notice any campfires? If so, were people ignorant of the restrictions or simply scoffing the law? My sense is that a tragic human-caused wildfire emanating from the Pine Ridge corridor will more quickly bring about the needed pe...

Re: In-the-field "trail report"

My sense is that the "trail report" is an eyesore on top of an eyesore. I have no issue with the original sign ... but now that it has been defaced it needs to go. I enter wilderness to get away from the designs of man. This is exactly what I DON'T want to see in the backcountry. I agree w...

Re: 4 day trip suggestions for 3/20-3/23

You could cover most of the unique and less-traveled Silver Peak Wilderness in four days. There's water along these trails and at these camps. Day 1 - Cruikshank Trail from Highway 1 to Lion Den Camp Day 2 - South Coast Ridge Road to Salmon Creek Trail to Spruce Creek Camp Day 3 - Spruce Creek Trail ...

Re: Recommended for one night? Cone Peak to Trail Springs C

I would suggest simply parking along Highway 1 at Kirk Creek and taking the Kirk Creek Trail 5 miles back to Vicente Flat Camp for the night. There is water along the trail near Espinosa Camp and water just up stream from Vicente Flat Camp. Vicente Flat Camp should be less hot and buggy than up on t...

Here's some older information about the geology of Reliz Canyon ... from 1963.

Re: Dogs allowed?

This from the US Forest Service Klamath National Forest page on "Rules of Thumb for Wilderness Areas:" "Dogs can cause problems with wildlife, pack-and-saddle stock and other dogs, and they may be annoying or threatening to other visitors. Be aware of these potential conflicts and kee...

Re: Remember to Check Road Conditions

This just in from Fort Hunter Liggett: Del Venturi Road on Fort Hunter Liggett is now CLOSED due to water volume in the San Antonio River making the ford impassable. To access training areas, the Los Padres National Forest campgrounds, including the Indians, and private property to the northwest, yo...

Remember to Check Road Conditions

There may be road closures in the Ventana region following these recent storms. Just a reminder to check with the US Forest Service in King City at 831-385-5434 before heading out. You can always check this link but I feel it is best to call. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/alerts-notices/?cid=st...
