Re: Lottie Potrero Trail FOUND
Wow. What a wonderful piece of work! And great report. So nice to know the historic Lottie Potrero Trail lives on (roughly following the route used by the 1769 Potrero Expedition). I can add to what already appears on previous VWA postings: () A link to downloading the Lottie Potrero Trail route GPX...

Old Coast Rd - Little Sur Trail Trailhead
Not being able to hike, decided to drive down Old Coast Road since Monterey County has recently officially opened it again after closure due to winter rains. Road was in excellent shape, the best I've ever seen, suitable even for relatively low clearance vehicles. Several storm drains appear to be n...

USFS Forest Closure extended to July 24
In case you'd not heard, the USFS has created a new forest order superceding the one having a June 13 expiration date, this one with expiration date July 24. Is essentially same as previous except for omission of two Day Use Areas (Pfeiffer Beach and Mill Creek) and the Milpitas Road repair closure....

Big Sur River height vs crossing hazard
Does anyone have some rule-of-thumb relationship between the Big Sur River height measurement and the difficulty of crossing at Sykes?? Awhile back, motivated by this year's rains, I added a button sending clickers to a graph of Big Sur River height on my Big Sur Trailmap homepage. Many more people ...

Re: Condor Trail VLOG
Had to laugh when I saw the map he displayed when deciding not to attempt going to Cook Spring Camp for his water. Brought back memories. That is the USFS map I tried to follow when I was new to the Ventana and tried to hike to Cook Spring Camp. CookSpring-USFS-annotated.jpg The round-about trail it...
