Re: Please be careful with fires this Memorial Day weekend
People also need to be reminded not to leave their campfire unattended and still smoldering. I saw one of these Memorial Day weekend.

Re: Monterey County Deserves a professional fire prevention
I love the title "Monterey County Deserves a professional fire prevention plan." The current version of the MCCWPP was prepared by professionals - many professionals from many fields of fire prevention and forest management. It has been studied and contributed to by many others. Reasonable...

Re: Short walk for school group?
I would advise the group to contact PV school, and maybe they can work out a "sharing" of experiences and hikes with our high school. It could be fun for both groups. The number is 805-927-4507. Teachers aren't back, yet, but the office is staffed. Also, the camp ground host is on the scho...

USFS Brushwork
Farley is correct. Some of the limbs and trees are 6-8" in diameter. I posted photos, if any one wants to see them. I spoke with Sherry Tune this evening, and she is aware of the problems and is addressing them. Love the tiger lily at Willow Creek.

Re: New Enterprise on Willow Creek Road
Well, I know who used to own the bright green Datsum S/W ... and she hasn't been on the South Coast in years. As to the boat, it has been there forever. I have always wondered about that one. It is really easy to cast blame without knowing the facts. And people seem to be fond of doing so. Doesn't r...

Re: Plaskett Fire, 2010-06-19 -- 2010-06-20
Yes, Mike, our first "real" fire of the season, started by a target shooter, shooting at a metal target. USFS, Cal-Fire, and BSVFB were all over this from the initial reporting at 1:30 pm, until containment. I have photos from the incident, as well as the aftermath. Three things worked in ...

Re: On matters of scale
And Mike, as you know, the Home Ridge Dozer line is NOT in the Wilderness and helps to protect my home, and many, many others on Plaskett. They did rehab of this dozer line after the Chalk Fire, but if you've been up Plaskett, you know that the 15 inches of rain we got on October 13th destroyed Plas...
