I've paddled the reservoir a number of times, and was out there a few weeks ago. The lake level is high this year, which is positive.

There is a short section of rough road to get up the parking lot. You will need to carry all your gear from the lot to the dam, and/or have wheels for your 'yak. It isn't unusual to see kayakers there, from what I can tell.

I'm not sure how to get to Danish Creek from the reservoir. I don't think there are any established official trails from the reservoir, other than the usual Carmel River/Big Pines Trail, whose status you can see from the conditions report on this site.

It is very brushy along the banks of the reservoir in most places, with plentiful poison oak. It is a worthwhile place to paddle. It can get breezy in the afternoons. That's all I've got.

Kayaking on Los Padres reservoir

Hi VWA community! I'd love your advice on a camping trip I'm planning. I am hoping to kayak across Los Padres reservoir and camp at Danish Creek. I checked with the ranger station and learned that the road to the dam is blocked around 0.5 miles short of the dam, which shouldn't cause too much of a problem. Is there anything else I should consider? I have camped at Danish Creek before, but I hiked in rather than kayaked. Thanks!
