When you join (or renew) as a member, you’ll become part of a community of people who believe the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness areas are ecological jewels worth protecting. For over twenty years, the Ventana Wilderness Alliance (VWA) has worked to advocate for & steward these lands so they can remain “wild” places that everyone has access to enjoy and experience — forever. The VWA is a 501 c 3 California nonprofit organization. Our Tax ID number is 77-0532467. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.
When you make a donation as a member, where does your support go?
- Big Sur backcountry trails can become next to impassable in a matter of a season (chronic understaffing means the US Forest Service no longer maintains these trails) — our dedicated volunteer and professional Trail Crew works hard to keep trails maintained & in good shape.
- Our team of 20+ Volunteer Wilderness Rangers educate backcountry visitors about campfire safety and “pack it in, pack it out” etiquette — making the forest a cleaner, safer place to visit.
- Our Youth in Wilderness team leads Monterey Bay Area teens on free, multi-day backpacking excursions in Wildeness. Over 80% of participants served are Latine from communities historically underrepresented in outdoor spaces like National Forests.
