Making a Trail Report

Submitting a trail report from your recent hike into the Ventana or Silver Peak Wilderness environs is both simple and helpful - just fill out the form below and submit it for each trail that you want to report on, and by doing so you'll be sharing your recent experience with other people who plan to head out into the places you just returned from. Most folks' trips cover more than one trail of course, so please fill out the form and submit the information as many times as necessary to cover all the trails for which you wish to file a report.

For each report include your name, e-mail address, the date you hiked that particular trail, a rating as to the general passability of that trail (Impassable, Difficult, Passable, Clear, or Wilderness Freeway), then follow up with a more detailed narrative of the specific conditions or problems encountered. For the longer trails some folks like to segment the specific conditions part of their reports, reporting conditions in a serial fashion between landmarks such as camps or junctions. This is fine so long as the entire report is specific to a particular named trail.

Clear: No obstacles and tread well defined. Passable: Some brush and/or deadfalls, tread evident. Difficult: Brushy and/or many deadfalls, faint tread. Impassable: Completely overgrown or tread obliterated.

Now please describe the SPECIFIC conditions you encountered on this trail such as encroaching brush, snow coverage, recent fire damage, landslides and/or tread washouts, large or numerous deadfall trees, dangerous river crossings, water availability, potential trespassing issues, etc. What difficulties did you encounter finding and/or following the trail?
