Trail Conditions Reports

Welcome to the On-line Trail Conditions Report System for the Ventana and Silver Peak Wilderness Areas, provided as a public service by the Ventana Wilderness Alliance. Here you'll find up-to-date information on almost all of the trails in Central California's northern Santa Lucia mountains / Big Sur coast area, as well as contact information for folks who have recently walked the route you're considering.

Browse the list of trails to find those that interest you. Click on the trail name to find out the official USFS trail #,  information about nearest parking, connecting trails, and campsites. Click on "Latest Conditions" to view previously submitted trail conditions report, and "Submit a Trail Report" to submit a report for your own recent trip.

As you can see, this entire project depends heavily upon input from trail users such as yourself, so please take the time to tell us how the walking went on your last trip!

We need your help!

Nearly 75% of the 15 mile Cone Peak Loop has been rebuilt. To complete the remaining 25%, we need your help. We are applying for a matching grant from the National Forest Foundation to support professional crew work to complete the last section of Stone Ridge Trail from Trail Springs Camp to the Apex. If we can raise $8000 from our membership, VWA will be able to apply for a tripling of your funding from the National Forest Foundation. Securing a path around Cone Peak is more than worth it. To support Mike and the Cone Peak Trails project, please click join and write "Cone Peak Project" in the comment field. 100% of the funds raised for Cone Peak will be spent on this ambitious project.
