VWA Willow Creek Restoration Project
Project Update
May 30, 2004

On the weekend of May 29 - 30, 2004, eight VWA volunteers moved 70 back pack loads of trash and machinery parts from the lapidary shop area to the staging area at the McGranahan cabin site. Most of the loads were pieces of machinery that were previously cut to back pack size with cutting torches. Time was also spent bagging small items including the remnants of an old burn pile that included some particularly nasty tidbits. When the contents of the burn pile were finally bagged, a couple of scorpions crawled out of the residue and surveyed what was left of their home. Also joining us this weekend was Ed Schehl of Rain Dancer Films who continued shooting video footage for his documentary film of the project. There are now an estimated 100-110 back pack loads of machinery parts and bagged trash at the staging area to be moved out of the wilderness later in the project. The special backpacks we acquired for the project worked very well and will continue to be used through the remainder of the project.

Check the VWA calendar for a listing of future Willow Creek Cleanup Project outings and/or fill out the project response form if you wish to volunteer.
