VWA Willow Creek Restoration Project
Project Update
May 5, 2004

With the Forest Service go ahead to start the project, the field work portion of the Willow Creek cleanup project began the weekend of April 18-19, 2004 with eight hearty VWA volunteers improving the use trails in the project area, deconstructing the lapidary shop, bagging small trash and sorting out the big items. The following weekend ten volunteers packed 15 compressed gas cylinders into the project area for the cutting torch crew. But Murphy's Law triumphed when it was discovered that an unanticipated $5 fitting was required to connect the torches to the mini-acetylene tanks. Not to be thwarted, the following weekend, eight volunteers, including two welders with the correct fittings, cut all of the large items at the McGranahan cabin site and the lapidary shop to backpack size, and then packed out half of the gas cylinders. A few days later three volunteers packed out the remainder of the cylinders.

A schedule is now being finalized for the next series of volunteer trips to work on the project. Check the VWA calendar for details and/or fill out the project response form if you wish to volunteer.
