Mar 10-11 Pine Ridge Trail Trip
A hardy crew of 9 veteran Ventana trail workers worked on the eastern end of the Pine Ridge trail out of China Camp, brushing and removing deadfall from the trail. Saturday weather was absolutely perfect - sunny and a little on the cool side, with a few patches of snow still on the north-facing slope. Great views of the Monterey Bay from the top of the ridge. A few of us helped Pat Bailey, the Wilderness Manager, install a new sign marking the wilderness boundary, replacing the one burned up in the 1999 Kirk fire. That evening, in addition to enjoying the usual fine cheese and crackers and various adult beverages, Esperanza treated us to prawns and freshly chopped potatoes and garlic sauted in butter over the campfire and served up over warm tortillas. It warmed up significantly on Sunday, well into the 80s, but the exceptionally hard working and good natured volunteer crew worked well into the afternoon. All pics taken by M. Heard
