April 26-27 Vicente Flat Trail Trip
Four members of the VWA Trail Crew met near Kirk Creek Campground on April 26th as part of the Cone Peak Gradient Project. Our goal was to finish off the downed trees that we had to leave behind on the Jan 21-22 work trip. We were able to remove 16 of those trees, taking care of most of the stuff that constituted a serious impediment to hikers. Left behind were large cantilevered redwood at N36° 02.017' W121° 29.004', the redwood over stream with narrow cutout at N36° 01.977' W121° 29.149', a jackstraw pile of large redwoods next to the stream crossing at N36° 01.973' W121° 29.166', and several relatively small (4" or less) overhanging trees. After the upcoming fire season is over it is hoped that USFS fire personnel will be available to tackle the jackstraw pile and the cantilevered redwood tree, and the VWA Trail Crew will take care of the smaller stuff on future work trips. Shown below are photos of the crew at work, as well of some of the scenery along this beautiful trail. MH
