April 4-5, 2009 Trail Work Trip

Date: April 4-5, 2009
Trail: Gamboa and North Coast Ridge Trails
Volunteers: 10
Volunteer Hours: 120

All, The weekend of April 4-5, 10 ventanaphiles were able to clear all the brush on the Gamboa trail from the North Coast Ridge Trail all the way down to Trail Springs. A 60 ft section of trail was restored to its original (and much better) location, several trees crossing the trail were sawed and/or moved off the trail, and about 300 ft of trail was cleared of tree litter and debris. Still remaining for completion of this section is removal of about 10 trees, and treadwork on major sections. While we expect additional trees to continue falling, especially on the upper third of this section, where oaks killed by fire remain standing, we have cleared brush far back from the tread and this work should last for many years.

No trail report would be complete without at least a cursory description of the glorious repast that we created Saturday night. There was seasoned and toasted bread, assorted crackers and several cheeses from various animals, including cows, goats, and sheep, guacamole and blue corn chips, sourdough bread and pesto, smoked salmon, asparagus tips, and I think the highlight of the repast was a tray of homemade Vietnamese spring rolls with homemade spicy peanut sauce. For dessert, we had raspberry almondine torte.

The entire crew was great to work with, and I think everyone had fun. Thanks All!
