For the next few issues of The Double Cone Quarterly, our ever-popular Lost Trails feature will be devoted to the Old Coast Trail, until the completion of Highway 1 in 1937 the only route down the Big Sur Coast. In this issue we begin the series with the section of the trail between Rockland Landing and Gamboa Point, an area where many of Big Sur's first families built their homesteads. In future issues, we'll move up and down the Coast as the whim takes us.
As always, your ideas are appreciated. If you know of a long-overgrown trail you'd like to see included in a future instalment of Lost Trails, please don't hesitate to let us know.
NOTE: The area shown on the maps below is almost entirely private property, and any attempt to find these old trails today would involve trespassing, and should not be considered.
