General Condition: Clear (no obstacles and tread well defined)

Conditions reported by: Stevenson Wilderness Expedition

General: CLEAR
Specific:

The Stevenson Wilderness Expedition has cleared the trail from the river up to Round Rock Camp, rolling a tree off the footbed and repairing the original trail. The camp is now inviting and available once again.

Conditions reported by: Ery Arias-Castro
Survey date: 18-MAY-2005
General: PASSABLE
Specific:

This was a side exploration without a backpack on. There was a large tree along the trail that could present challenges if traveling with a heavy backpack.

Conditions reported by: Stephen Eggleston
Survey date: 16-MAY-2005
General: DIFFICULT
Specific:

Oops, I took a wrong turn. The junction to Round Rock Camp is not well marked. As a result I learned the condition of the Round Rock Trail. It is overgrown. The trail down to the 1st river crossing is slightly treacherous. The 1st crossing in actually quite slippery. The rest of the way is very overgrown with deadfalls. The trail at the 2nd crossing is blocked by two HUGE deadfalls, review your obstacle course skills!! The camp is clear and beautiful, too bad this was a wrong turn for me!!

Conditions reported by: Lindsay Jeffers - Stevenson Wilderness Expedition
Survey date: 01-MAR-2004
General: PASSABLE
Specific:

Section: Round Rock Camp Trail entire

Note that the last section of this trail is blocked by 50 feet of rotten pine trunk (4 ft diameter)lying along the hillside trail where it descends to the crossing at Round Rock Camp. We cleared the trail from the Carmel River Trail down to the crossing of the Carmel River where a large flat area will have to stand in for the nicer Round Rock Camp which will be inaccessible until a new route is created past this major obstacle.

Conditions reported by:Mike Blanksma
Survey date: JUNE-2000
General: PASSABLE, BUT CAMP DAMAGED BY STOCK
Specific:

Last hiked in up the Carmel River trail in June 2000. Portions of Round Rock trail are suffering from heavy damage/erosion from numerous horse and mules. Found evidence at Round Rock Camp that horses are not being hobbled, but rather tied to trees. Someone ain't packing out the horse manure either...have filed complaints about the damage caused by horses with King City before- the most likely culprit is the horse ranch up at China Camp- the rangers don't seem to want to do anything with the complaints. As usual flies, flies and more flies. Still lots of garbage at the camp, we packed out what we could.

Conditions reported by: Stevenson School Wilderness Expedition 2000
Survey date: APRIL-2000
General: CLEAR
Specific:

The ROUND ROCK TRAIL is in fine shape, though there are a few brush problems and poison oak problems after the first crossing. We cleared most of it. In high water, the best crossing right before camp is just before the intended crossing at the trail's end. The camp itself is in great shape, though some buttheads left bottles and cans and debris too heavy and disgusting for us to pack out. We bagged it and put it off to the side for a future pack-out.
