Mill Creek Trail

Trail Conditions History 2006-2008

Postby Site Administrator on Tue May 26, 2009 10:35 am

Date Hiked: May 26, 2008
General Condition: Impassable (completely overgrown or tread obliterated)

Conditions reported by: Dennis Maggard
Survey date: 26-May-2008
General: IMPASSABLE
Specific:

With a troop of boy scouts we attempted to locate this trail near the Nacimiento Station. We could not locate any trail markers or signs. From the junction of Nacimiento-Ferguson Road and Cone Peak Road, we followed an old logging road down into the Mill Creek canyon for a couple of miles, assuming that was probably the right trail -- before the road began to follow a side canyon back up the mountain. We backtracked to what we assumed was Mill Creek, then scouted around for a sign of a trail on the north side of the small creek. No such luck. If there was a trail, it was long gone; or perhaps we were in the wrong canyon :-) Ed. Note: the signed trailhead is near the bottom of Nacimiento Fergusson road on the Hwy 1 side. Apparently it doesn't go all the way through.

General: PASSABLE
Specific:

What a beautiful and cool place to be in the heat of summer. Abundant water for the entire trail as it paralells Mill Creek. The trail has probably been used by day hikers who have traveled no more than a mile. This first mile (ish) is clear and the trail obvious. Thereafter there are washed out areas a couple of good dead falls and some pleasant creek crossings. These three things add up to some frustration along the way, as you might loose the trail here and there. Lion Creek will veer to the left and you'll need to hop that. Generally the Mill Creek Trail is on the North side of Mill Creek as it winds through some lush well canopied clover and fern.
