Miller Canyon Trail Flagging Expedition

Postby Steve B on Fri May 13, 2016 10:57 am

May 11, 2016 we flagged the Miller Canyon Trail, we last flagged it Sept. 11, 2013. There was still some flagging left from 2013 but the flagging was missing in some of the vital turn areas, we had to go from memory and luck finding the trail in many areas. The views of Miller Canyon from the meadows on the upper trail are amazing but the trail is starting to become impassible in some areas from brush and thick in your face poison oak. In most cases the tread is in fairly good shape except where cows, that escaped into the wilderness during the 2008 Basin Fire, and caused deep holes in the tread past the Nason Cabin Site. There is an abandoned sleeping bag about two miles before Miller Canyon Camp that we will have to retrieve on another trip. Miller Canyon Camp was in good shape and appears to be seldom used, Clover Basin Camp was overgrown around the fire ring, which we cleared, but the rest of the camp is open and clear of brush. The trail from Miller Canyon Camp is passible but brushy with lots of poison oak.
