Here's some supplemental info from our work trip:

1. Number of types of sausage eaten: 6; total number of sausages eaten: 11.
2. Best sausage: spicy merguez lamb from meat place in San Francisco that Robert Parks had recommended; second place, habanero sausage from Paso Robles.
3. Surprisingly, after eating all of that sausage, we still had room for some fresh olallieberry pie.
4. With respect to zombie strategy, a temporary defensive position could be set up on the Cone Peak Road just before "Window Camp" to slow them down, but there's a narrow Thermopylae-like spot (with a sheer cliff above and a steep, gravelly hillside below) about 1/2 mile up the NCRT that would be a perfect place to set up a permanent defensive barrier.

Trail Crew Report - Nov 14-15

Postby dknapp1 on Mon Nov 16, 2009 12:08 pm

All, we had a small but fiesty group this past weekend who worked on
the North Coast Ridge Trail - Mike Heard, Jean LeBlanc, Philippe
LeBlanc, and David Knapp (me). Though our group was small, we did a
lot of rock clearing and brushing on the beginning part of the NCRT.
Not all the rocks were cleared, but from the pictures you can see some
examples of the work we accomplished.

Cleared Rock

Sat night was cold and clear, and we had plenty of chips, roasted tomato
salsa, sausages from both SF (a Robert Parks-recommended place) and Paso Robles, oysters, crackers, beer (root beer for the minor) and red wine.
My favorite sausage was the spicy lamb sausage, but I think the
habanero might have been a close second, then the buffalo, then the
venison and pork, then the spicy turkey.

By the numbers:
100 yards of trail brushed or cleared of rocks
1/2 mile of additional trail brushed
16 the age of the youngest attendee
2-3 the estimated number of tons of rock pushed, tossed or rolled off of the NCRT
1 the number of Mcleods I broke
4 the number of attendees
5 the number of shooting stars seen
1 the number of strategic plans designed to thwart a zombie attack on
"Window Camp"
6 the number of different sausages we ate
3 the number of boat lights we saw on the ocean at night
35 the lowest degree reached (estimated)
9 the number of hikers seen
2 the number of tricked-up Volkswagon Vanagons seen car camping on the Cone Peak Road
1 the number of tarantulas seen on FHL
2 the number of times I saw the elk herd on FHL
