I would strongly recommend hiking out of Bottchers Gap also. Head towards Jackson. Especially in hot weather this may be an excellent place to go. It is down going out and quite a long climb coming back up to the car. If someone is looking for hot springs I would look at Mono Hot Springs. It is a long ways from Ventana, but an outstanding place to camp, soak and swim.
