Personal communication to me from the SAR team right before they took off in a Hughes 500 from the top of The Caves Road looking for a sketchily described trail junction over near Ventana Ck, early this past winter.
Bluebird day, reason given for the heli was a lack of boots-on-the-ground personnel to get there before it got dark.
Injury itself was confirmed by a news report a day or two after in the Salinas Californian, IIRC. Might have also been in the Herald. I'll dig up the pics I took, should give me EXIF headers for the date if you need more info, Carl.
