Funny how the ability to make calls from anywhere at anytime has come to seem like a critical safety issue, if not an outright necessity. Not so long ago it was completely impossible to make a call from anywhere in the Ventana Wilderness at any time - yet I never heard anyone complain that lack of phones in the Wilderness made them unsafe or that they were being inconvenienced in any way by it. Funny how reliant we become on the latest technology when, in reality, we don't need it at all.
Now people are even considering carrying bulky satellite phones or ham radios with them if they can't get cell coverage - something I can't remember anyone considering doing in the pre-call phone era. Funny how we never missed 'em before we had 'em, but now can't live without them.
