Story: I was on a day hike from old coast road to Pico Blanco public camp. Parked my car and stashed all my pocket stuff (keys, wallet, cell) into my daypack for the trip, guess I forget to turn the cell off because about twenty minutes in, just before the first water crossing I hear the sound of an incoming text message from deep within my pack. I did pull the phone out and turn it off after a brief dialog with my brother, interesting to note, it didnt look like enough bars to place a call, but text went through okay.
