AT&T and Verison both have a tower at Post Ranch. AT&T also beams the signal from Post Ranch to Point Sur.(I think sprint will roam in Big Sur)
As far as Kirk Creek Trail, you have to get high enough to see over the ridges above Big Creek to see Post Ranch and make a connection. If you get to Cone Peak you can also get a signal from the army base.
