Ivan, have you come across the idea that one of the local California lizards (maybe blue-belly swift) has some capability of combating the lyme disease spirochete and that when the infected tick sucks the lizard's blood, it is also reducing its likelihood of transmitting lyme disease to its later victims? This might explain some of the differences between our infection rates versus those in Connectictut, where a Stamford, Ct. doctor friend tells me that they treat any non-specific flu-like symptom as a lyme case.
