if you want to see sykes and camp elsewhere going to redwood camp is a good bet. it is the next camp on the trail another 2-3 miles in and is less frequently occupied than the various camps down river from sykes. frequently less occupied but i did once find a package of hot dogs and an unopened bottle of acetone there. still not sure what the acetone was about. the trail after sykes is less maintained but very doable.
