We are a long way from the natural fire regime after supressing fire for so long. Restoring the natural role of fire in the Santa Lucias is a worthy goal, but it shouldn't be taken on by freelancers. Remember that "natural" fires are due to lightning strikes, and would be almost entirely restricted to the wetter part of the year in these parts. A very large proportion of fires nowadays are started by humans (carelessness, accident or arson) and burn large areas during the dry season. Controlled burns could be a good thing, but should be well thought out to reintroduce "natural" conditions. It's hard to think of intentionally starting a fire to watch it burn (and maybe pick up some seasonal work) as "good".
