I can't argue with the fact that the Sierra Club decided it WAS the "Bear Basin Trail" from Pine Valley to the Pine Ridge Trail. But in some current maps I have seen, the trail into Bear Basin no longer appears, and the Forest Service seems to have pretty much abandoned the trail from what I consider the Pine Ridge Connector into Bear Basin and up to Pine Ridge. So, with the Sierra Club nomenclature, we have a trail named for a location it no longer serves . Of course, those same topo maps seem confident there is a trail from the Double Cones, across the Window, and over to Mt. Manuel by way of Tin House Camp! (Big Sur and Ventana Wilderness Recreation Map from Wilderness Press, 2d edition 2005)
