I had some time to kill over the holiday and did some fiddling around with the Google Maps API.
Mouse over the markers for a caption, click on the marker for a thumbnail. Click on the thumbnail for the full size image.
The map can be dragged and the links on the right will center the map on the selected landmark.
Caveats:
- There will be a couple second delay as the map points load.
- I only did the routes from the 3 northern Ventana Trailheads. (LP Dam, Bottchers Gap, and China Camp). If there's interest, I'll add the southern areas.
- I've only tested this w/ IE6 (and there's enough DHTML in it to make it likely that there may be issues with other browsers. Let me know if anythings majorly broken)
- The satelite image Google provides isn't nearly as interesting as a Topo would be. I'm hoping that Google will add this feature at some point. (I've seen some attemts at using a custom map set with Google Maps, but this looks like more work than its worth)
- There's no good way to add freeform routes via the api. (This would be much more interesting with the trails added)
