Boon, thanks for checking and also for the heads-up on Terraserver the other day. Toggling between topographic and aerial photo views is a cool feature. Reason being that the local quads may only be as good as the original datum; story has it that the cartographer who originally surveyed this sector went to prison for fabricating elevations. Maybe they later resurveyed, maybe they caught all the errors, and maybe they didn't.
I suspect the latter, having found out the hard way, smashing through brush, and risking heat stroke one August afternoon many years back while trying to decipher the contours of down along the Church Creek Trail between Wildcat Camp and the Mesa. I've got all the local quads, rarely/never plan trips by them since, most have used them to plot discovered features after the fact.
