I can't be as sure, Boon. I've glassed what can be seen from above, and the tread doesn't strictly follow the ridgeline as most dozer cuts do.
Also, several of the dozer operators up here cutting firebreak in 99 told me they'd been the ones during Marble Cone (in 77) to cut break down the spine of the North side of Calaboose Cyn; the spur road/route/break/trail in question is to the South.
May '94 Terraserver shots do seem to show that the trail or cut was where they stopped a fire, more recently, perhaps, than MC? While I always thought Marble Cone did all the major damage up in this section, today's look at the aerial view has me wondering if the Rat Creek Fire in (85, 86?) came back through there as well? There was a pretty big barnburner in Arroyo Seco back in the mid-80's that they might have cut line for as well, I dunno. Looking for a fire history map but not having much luck online.
Another interesting clue is that there's an old pipe-set welded sign, all rusted and shot up, overgrown with brush the junction of the spur and TJ Road. It's old enough that it probably precedes ORV Use Prohibited signage. I'm thinking it was a mileage or route sign, and that they don't do that for dozer-cut firebreaks.
Dimly recall an old-timer telling me that there'd been a Jeep trail in Calaboose once. Know that there was an extensive amout of ORV use and any number of trails down in the Piney Ck Campground area until the FS rehabbed it in the late 90's.
Hoping some other OT will chime in to set us straight one way or the other.
