Calendar Questions Outings and Events Questions

How does the calendar work?

There are two different ways to view the calendar events: one is in the calender format which is the default and which you are automatically sent to when you go to the calendar. In the calendar format all you do is click on the event titles and up will pop a page describing the event. The other way is the monthly scrolling format, which can be accessed by clicking on the button in the upper right of the calendar page that looks like a page of a notebook. Try both and see which one works best for you. Other than that we suggest that you just click around, trying all the various buttons and menus until you get the hang of it.

Is this calendar open to non-VWA events?

Yes, it certainly is. In fact, we encourage all other organizations with outings or events taking place in the northern Santa Lucia to please let us know the details and we'll post them to the calendar. Please send them in!

How do I submit an event for listing on the calendar?

Simply send the information via email to events@ventanawild.org and we'll post it pronto. Please be sure to include all of the following:

Sponsoring Organization:
Event Description:
Date:
Time:
Contact Person:
Contact Phone Number:
Contact Email Address:

What types of events are appropriate for listing on the calendar?

Any event, outing or meeting that is somehow related to or taking place somewhere in the northern Santa Lucia mountain range is welcome on the calendar. But we'll likely not include crass commercialism, and we reserve the right to refuse to post anything to the calendar that we feel is inappropriate.

Must I be a member of the sponsoring organization in order to attend their event?

Unless otherwise noted in the event description, all events on the calendar are open to the public and newcomers are heartily encouraged to attend.

How do I know if my level of fitness or experience is appropriate for a given outing?

Read the description of the outing that you're interested in. It should include a brief "rating" on the strenuosity of that outing that will give you and idea of what you're getting yourself into. If you're still unsure, get in touch with the outing leader for further information.

How do I become involved in leading outings or organizing events?

The first step is to attend a number of outings and see how its done. Then, of course, you'll have to join the organization under which you'd like to lead some outings or for which you'd like to organize events. As far as the VWA goes, all you need to do is write up an outing/event proposal and submit it for consideration to the outings and events committee, who are pretty easy. You can get in touch with them at events@ventanawild.org.
